🔹 ENGLISH TRANSLATION (Sahih International)
O you who wraps himself [in clothing],
Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little –
Half of it – or subtract from it a little
Or add to it, and recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.
Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.
Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.
Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation.
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with complete devotion.
[He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs.
And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little.
Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire
And food that chokes and a painful punishment –
On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down.
Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white-haired?
The heaven will split open because of it; His promise is fulfilled.
Indeed, this is a reminder. So whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.
🔹 SIMPLE URDU/HINDI MEANING
Allah Ta’ala apne Nabi ﷺ se farmate hain: “Ae blanket mein lipe hue! Raat mein utho aur namaz padho – aadhi raat ya thodi kam/zyada. Quran ko tarteel se padho. Din mein kaam hai, lekin raat mein sirf Allah ko yaad karo. Sabr rakho aur mujhe mukhalif logon ke saath chhod do.” Yeh Surah raat ki ibadat aur sabr ki taleem deti hai.

WHY Surah Muzammil in Roman English MATTERS
Surah Al-Muzzammil was revealed in the early Makkan period when the Prophet ﷺ was facing intense opposition. The word “Muzzammil” means “the one wrapped in a cloak.” Allah gently woke His beloved Messenger to stand for prayer at night because a “weighty word” (the full Quran) was about to be revealed.
This Surah teaches three timeless lessons:
- Night prayer (Tahajjud) is the best time to connect with Allah.
- Recite Quran slowly and thoughtfully (tarteel).
- Be patient with difficulties and trust Allah completely.
The Sahaba who followed this command gained immense spiritual strength. The Surah ends with a beautiful open door: “Indeed, this is a reminder. So whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.” That way is still open for every one of us today. Reciting Surah Muzammil in Roman English helps millions of Muslims who cannot read Arabic fluently to understand and live these lessons.
WHEN TO RECITE Surah Muzammil in Roman English
Best Time: • Last third of the night (Tahajjud time) – This is when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and answers prayers (authentic hadith in Bukhari & Muslim). • After Isha prayer before sleeping – prepares the heart for night worship. • Any time during the day for reflection – especially when facing stress or opposition.
Avoid/Be Careful: • Do not treat it as a magic formula for worldly problems (fabricated claims exist). • Women may recite during menses (Quran recitation is allowed; only touching the Mushaf is restricted).
Frequency: Daily once with understanding is excellent. During Tahajjud, recite it fully or in parts as the Prophet ﷺ did.
